Happy Memorial Day! Today I am spending time with family and enjoying a day off in honor and remembrance of those who gave their lives while serving in the Armed Forces.  The look below aims to embody a relaxed vibe that has a patriotic undertone with the denim on denim look in light and dark hues and a red lip.  I absolutely love this chambray denim top from Madewell. It is a staple in my wardrobe that I dress down for casual looks and can pair with a work appropriate pant or skirt.

Also, I finally added my blog to Bloglovin’, so you can follow along via this link! Thanks for reading and have a great week!

As the days are getting longer and the temperature higher, I’ve finally pulled out my shorts and taken advantage of this wonderful weather!  The look below is one that I can throw on for a relaxed yet refined casual look to go out during the day or even run errands.  One of my favorites, is going to the farmer’s market. Paired with a hat and an amazing bag I snagged a few years back, I’m ready to fare the beating sun and carry home my market finds. I love going around and trying out different farmer’s markets to  support local farms and businesses and get a few great eats along the way.

If you are ever in the St. Louis area, one great two in one option is Bowood Farms Café Osage in the Central West End Neighborhood.  Locally owned, the venue is a great treat to eat and explore plant and fresh produce finds within the City of St. Louis, Missouri.

Thanks for stopping by today!  Happy early weekend and Memorial Day!

Happy Monday!

The title of this blog post fits my mood as of late. I’ve been away from A Sketch of Sho for a while and it feels so great to be back! I’ve been finishing up my final full semester of graduate school alongside job interviews. The last few weeks have been intense to say the least. Traveling for interviews out of state in tandem with academic deadlines has kept my adrenaline going and has pushed me in so many ways. I have had to put a few personal things on the back burner, such as my blog, in order to fulfill my duties to the expectations I set for myself professionally and academically. Thankfully, I finished strong and can rest a bit before I take the next steps in my journey.

The look below, fits my mood as of late. Regardless of how tired you are, during those moments of self-discouragement, and even when you feel at your best, always get up, dress your best, show up, and never give up. These past few weeks challenges have truly tested and coached me in being the best and truest me I can be. I hope that you all have a great week and live to your personal best potential today and always! Take it one day at at time!

Love,

Sho

Greetings and happy Monday! Today I’m talking classics.  Classic pieces are those treasures in your wardrobe that continue to hold their value in style overtime. Pieces like trench coats, good quality cardigans, a crisp collared shirt, and staple flats, are a few of many that should have a definite home in your wardrobe.  When it comes to investing, I spend more on pieces that I know will have their value in time and quality, and those are always classic pieces.  I rarely, if ever, spend much money on trendy pieces, as those are the ones I end up donating/selling or just end up sitting unworn for months to years in my closet.  The pieces that I have selected below are ones that I find to be classic in either their silloutte and/or color and have the ability to evolve with current trends.  Also, the pieces selected are great for the Spring season, can carry your wardrobe into Summer and then be recycled again there after.

Lastly, I put together a checklist of wardrobe classics.   It is a great reference when figuring out what you are missing/have within your wardrobe alongside a few of my favorites classics I’ve featured through my Instagram.  Check out others by following me here.

Thank you for stopping by! I’d love to hear your comments or suggestions you may have for your top classic pieces!

Hey there! Happy Thursday! Today I’m talking capes, a statement piece for any look and a great staple for your wardrobe. I found this cape at Asos and it was a great discovery. I’ve seen capes range from many different prices and its taken me a while to find one that I like, fits well, and is within my price point. This particular cape has a great texture to it, feels great on, and is large enough that I can wear it in a variety of different ways. I see this piece being one I travel with as it can almost serve as a wrap/blanket for a flight and it can be a great piece to throw over a minimal look, for running around during the day, or even for an evening. So with that being said, I’m going to let the cape do all of the talking! Thank you for stopping by today and checking out my post!

Top: Theory (sold out, check for availability here, similar Theory top here) | Tank: J.Crew Factory  | Trench: Zara (old) similar here, here (under $100) | Bottoms: Urban Outfitters (similar here on sale under $40)| Flats: Halogen via Nordstrom | Bag: Vince Camuto (on sale!) | Sunglasses: Steve Madden | Rings: David Yurman | Bracelet: David Yurman

Happy Monday! Like I’ve stated before, I’m a sucker for monochromatic tones. I love the crisp look of white shirts, tops and jeans and this look plays with both white and off white tones. I came across this eyelet top from Theory and it was one those pieces that I’m glad I have now and am still wearing seasons later. When it comes to pieces I invest in, I asses a few factors and of those, the top ones are quality in construction, a sense of timelessness, and color. Theory is one of those brands, although it is costly up front, it is well worth the investment down the road. The classic, clean, and simple lines of Theory pieces are timeless and will be staples in your wardrobe for years as the quality and craftsmanship in the clothing is phenomenal. Also, it’s a great brand to catch on sale as the price reductions are great and make the pieces even sweeter when found!

Thanks for stopping by today and have a great start to your week!

I can’t believe that it is almost Friday! This week flew by, but this weekend will be full of good times with my sister coming to visit.  The look today is a casual look, and one of my favorite pieces from this look are the jeans.  I found this great find at Ann Taylor.  I normally shop at Ann Taylor for business appropriate attire, but came across these earlier in March and they fit great and come in a variety of washes.  Normally, I have the hardest time finding jeans that fit me where they should in length without alterations.  These jeans come in both petite and regular sizes and for a shortie like me, they fit just right!  I would definitely recommend these to set off your spring wardrobe.

Thanks for stopping by, and happy early weekend!

Happy Monday! Generally, I’m a girl who loves classic looks in classic monochromatic colors.  Anything  in black, white, cream, grey, nude… (you get the point!) However, I love integrating bold pops of color in my wardrobe and I love doing it in different ways.  This coat by Kenneth Cole that I got at Nordstrom a few Anniversary Sales ago is one of those pieces that is striking in its color and silhouette and is one of my favorites that is still in style seasons later.  At any rate, I strive to add more color into my wardrobe and overall style and find that this Spring is a great time to do that with the great color pallets the season offers.  Stay tuned to see what I find!

Days where casual and simple looks are a must due to a massive time crunch in the morning, a classic v-neck tee and jeans are a great go to casual look. Paired with complementing outerwear and accessories and I’m out the door! I absolutely love the fit and style of these jeans from Madewell. I am very particular when it comes to selecting quality denim, and I’ve found that the denim at Madewell is great quality and when you catch it on sale, it won’t break the bank! Additionally, considering that I am petite, finding bottoms that hit me at the right spot in length is always a challenge. So, its great that Madewell offers tailoring within their stores and even greater now that you can pick up great Madwell finds at my favorite one stop shop, Nordstrom!

Happy Monday and happy first week of Spring! While the temperature is finally rising across the Midwest, days are still chilly here in St. Louis and call for layers. Regardless, I am enjoying lighter and brighter tones in celebration of spring and especially this Merino wool sweater from J.Crew. The light color, zipper detail, and relaxed fit of the sweater work well dressed up for work or dressed down for a more casual look. What I love even more about this sweater and other great finds I come across at J.Crew, is that they honor both student and teacher discounts on already marked down merchandise, so this was definitely a great one to snag!

As warmer temperatures set in, I am overjoyed to put on lighter, brighter, and airy pieces. Basic slender strap tanks and fuller mid-length skirts in colors such as there are classic in their tones, silhouette, and fabric and will never go out of style (cue the Taylor Swift melody!). Especially on leisure trips, I find that I gravitate towards staple pieces such as these in my wardrobe that wear well and travel well time and time again. I’d love to hear your comments on your classic, staple pieces in your wardrobe, and the ones you pull out of your closet time and time again.

Greetings from San Diego! I am currently here for a few days and have been loving this warm weather. While the temperature has been absolutely wonderful, the occasional cool breeze from being near the ocean calls for layers. When I am traveling, I am drawn to effortless and simple ensembles that travel well. I love to pair bright light pieces of similar color families such as this white and off white pairing with nude color accents in accessories and outer ware. A classic trench is always a great go to piece and is worth investing in and these flats, new for spring at Nordstrom, are also going to be a great staple for this coming season for their comfort and versatility.

Thank you for stopping by!
